Dear Everyone Who Annoyed Me This Year... 💌
Using AI to Draft (But Not Send) All Your Pent-Up Feelings for a Stress-Free Summer
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this newsletter, you'll be able to:
Use AI prompts to safely process and release end-of-year frustrations
Create therapeutic "unsent letters" that help you decompress without burning bridges
Transform negative emotions into productive reflection for personal growth
Enter summer break with a clear mind and renewed energy
Do Now
Before we get started, take a moment to take a deep breath. Really. If you're reading this, you've survived another school year. You've dealt with difficult parents, challenging colleagues, unmotivated students, broken copy machines, and probably at least seventeen last-minute "urgent" requests that could have waited until fall.
You're human. You have feelings. And some of those feelings might not be entirely... professional. That's okay. In fact, it's healthy to acknowledge them.
What We’re Working with Today
Today we'll explore how to use AI as your personal therapist and writing coach to process all those end-of-year emotions. We're going to write those emails you've been composing in your head at 3 AM, craft those responses you wish you could send, and get all that frustration out of your system, safely and productively.
Remember: The goal isn't to send these. The goal is to release, reflect, and reset.
I Do, We Do, You Do
I Do: Here’s What I Created
This week, I created a series of "therapeutic writing" prompts that help educators process difficult emotions and situations. Without going into too much detail, I will just say this last week of school for students and teachers was an intense week.
What I always say is it is always better to let it out. If someone is thinking of saying everything on their mind during an exit interview, or filing a complaint, or writing a strongly-worded email, I always tell them to do it. Do it, but first write it down. Sleep on it. And if for two wake-ups, you still feel like you need to say it or do it, then you should.
9 times out of 10, just getting it out is enough. Or you decide to ask Claude or ChatGPT to soften it before sending it.
Tools I used: Claude (any LLM works)
We Do: Let’s Build This Together
Follow this step-by-step guide to create your own AI-powered emotional release session:
Step 1: Choose Your Target Pick one person or situation that's been weighing on you. Don't go for the biggest frustration first—start with something manageable.
Step 2: Set Up Your AI Prompt Use this framework:
I need to write a therapeutic letter to process my feelings about [situation/person]. This is NOT to be sent, it's purely for my emotional well-being. Help me write a letter to [person] about [specific situation]. I want to express how their actions made me feel, what I wish I could say, and what I need them to understand. Keep it honest but not cruel.
Help me frame this letter by asking me clarifying questions until you are 95% certain you can provide expert level help.
Step 3: Let It Flow Don't edit yourself. Let the AI help you get it ALL out. Every frustration, every "I can't believe they said that," every moment where you wanted to respond but stayed professional.
Step 4: Process and Reflect Once you've written it, ask your AI:
Now help me identify what the core issues are in this situation and what I can learn from it. What are the valid points I'm making, and how can I use this experience to set better boundaries or communicate more effectively in the future?
Ask me one question at a time, taking into consideration my response before asking the next question.
You Do: Your Mini Task for the Week
Now it's your turn! Choose ONE situation from this school year that's still bothering you. It could be:
That parent who questioned your expertise
The administrator who added to your workload at the last minute OR The staff member who did not complete a mandatory task on time
The colleague who didn't pull their weight on the committee
The technology that failed during your most important lesson
Use the AI prompts above to write your therapeutic letter. Remember: Write it, process it, learn from it, then as they say… let it go.
Think of 3 situations this year where you wished you could have said more (but professionally couldn't)
Pair up with a colleague to share your biggest end-of-year frustration (without naming names!)
