Before we get started, take a moment to try this prompt if you're feeling stuck or frustrated:
I need some tough love about [your situation].
Can you:
1. Point out potential blind spots in my thinking
2. Suggest 3 immediate actions I can take
3. Give me a reality check about what I might be avoiding
Be direct but constructive. I'm ready to hear it. Ask me questions as needed. I’m looking for expert-level guidance and 95% certainty that the proposed action plan is effective. Thank you.
What We’re Working with Today
Today we're diving into something a bit different—how to use AI as your personal "truth-teller." Sometimes we all need that friend who'll tell us when we have spinach in our teeth or when we're making excuses instead of progress. But let's be honest, it's not always easy to find that perfect balance of honesty and support in our human relationships. Enter: AI as your judgment-free tough love coach.
I Do, We Do, You Do
I Do: Here’s What I Created
This week, I found myself feeling frustrated about my [lack of] business growth. Instead of staying stuck in that spiral, I decided to ask ChatGPT for some tough love. Here's the exact prompt I used:
I am a little frustrated (with myself mostly) about the lack of profit I'm making on my AI and automation ventures. Can you give me some tough love and actionable steps to becoming profitable in the next 1-3 months? Ask me questions as needed. I'm looking for expert-level guidance and 95% certainty that the proposed action plan is effective. Thank you.
The response? Let's just say ChatGPT didn't hold back! So much so that it lit a fire underneath me. In just a few days since, I have done the following:
Edumated Consulting - I built and launched the branch of the business that will focus on training and professional development for districts, schools, and educational companies.
AI & Automation for Educators Course on Maven - I have officially published the course and will begin enrolling students! This one was a push—there was a lot to do to get the course landing page published, and I still have a lot to work on in the next month to be ready to run the first cohort. But if there’s anything I’ve learned in the past few months, it’s that a sudden, urgent deadline forces me to drop all excuses.

You Do: Your Mini Task for the Week
Now it's your turn! Take that feeling of being stuck that's been nagging at you lately (we all have one!) and craft your own "tough love" prompt. Remember to:
Be specific about your situation
Ask for both analysis and solutions
Set clear parameters for the type of feedback you want
Ready for more AI insights? Here’s a sample prompt you can try:
Review my current professional challenges and opportunities:
[Describe your current situation, anything that is bothering you, that you are uncertain about in your work.]
1. What am I potentially overthinking?
2. What am I possibly under-thinking?
3. What one action would create the biggest positive impact in the next 30 days?
Be specific and direct in your analysis. Ask me questions as needed. I’m looking for expert-level guidance and 95% certainty that the proposed action plan is effective. Thank you.
Think of 3 teaching or administrative challenges you've been hesitant to address. Write down what's holding you back from tackling them head-on.
Pair up with a colleague and exchange your ChatGPT tough love responses. What patterns do you notice in how you each approach challenges? What surprised you about the AI's feedback?
